Is Cam Newton in the top ten healthy QBs?
Cam Newton was given a high ranking by Chris Simms although he did not get a new team after his release from the Carolina Panthers.
Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton may not have a new home after his release earlier this year. But he’s still considered one of the best in the business by an NFL analyst.
The flagman lived up to his bill and more when the Carolina Panthers selected Newton with Auburn’s 2011 overall pick. transformed the franchise to fame and probably deserved better treatment in terms of the timing of its release a little over two months ago.
There are many mitigating factors when exploring the reasons why Newton has yet to find a new team. He is recovering from serious shoulder and foot injuries over the past two seasons. And interested parties have not been able to conduct their own independent medical assessments in the current climate.
Chris Simms of Pro Football Talk has ranked his best quarterbacks heading into 2020. And the analyst placed Newton No. 10 on the list. It was 19 places higher than the current Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, which has been handpicked to replace the 2015 NFL MVP after signing a three-year contract, $ 63 million deal that included a $ 15 million signing bonus and a $ 33 million guarantee.
Simms declared his faith in Newton for deliver the goods again if they are sound. He also expected the player to be signed in the not too distant future with the return of NFL teams to training facilities.
“Yes, Cam Newton. If he’s in good health, he’s in the top 10 in quarterbacks. The question is whether he is in good health and when / if / how a team will be able to reach this conclusion correctly. It’s more than the simple foot injury that caused him to miss 14 games last year. He also had a shoulder injury in 2018 which resulted in surgery and a mid-career change in his throwing movement.
“The pandemic has made it very difficult for Newton to land a job, and with most of the starting positions taken, he will likely have to wait until someone gets hurt. For many teams, it would be impossible to justify keeping him as a replacement after the players saw what he can do on a training ground – if, again, he is in good health. At some point, Newton will have another chance. And if it is really healthy, whoever gets it will end up being very happy with it. Even though, for now, Newton probably isn’t very happy to be a franchise quarterback without a franchise.
Is former Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton a healthy top ten quarterback?
It’s easy to forget with all that happened how well a top Cam Newton was playing in 2018 before injuries took their toll. Carolina Panthers Looked ready for a playoff spot before their quarterback was injured. What if he can come back to that standard. This will indeed make another organization very happy.
The Panthers have made some bold decisions regarding their veteran players this offseason. Something drastic had to be done to straighten their fortunes. And that left Newton and Greg Olsen on the outside.
It was probably for the greater good. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that things could have been handled more compassionately given what Newton has given to the franchise throughout his career.
Ranking the 19-place player ahead of Bridgewater also looks somewhat bizarre from Simms ‘perspective, with the former New Orleans Saint leading Sean Payton’s men to a 5-0 record in Drew Brees’ absence in 2019 .
Hindsight would be a wonderful thing to have when it comes to the NFL. Carolina’s decision to release Newton might seem a little ridiculous this time around next year. Or it could be seen as the spark that brings the organization back to notoriety.
